About Dr. Danielle Petricone-Westwood, C.Psych.

As a Clinical & Health Psychologist, I help people to recover from painful experiences, like the diagnosis of an illness or interpersonal conflicts and trauma. I understand how these events can profoundly impact us and compound with past experiences.  I help my clients to thrive in their lives and achieve their life goals, particularly as they recover from adversity.

Trained as a clinician-scientist, I provide impactful, evidence-based treatments that can help people to move through these pains. I integrate research and science into my teaching and clinical work.

My workshops and training programs integrate both my clinical and research experience to teach my audience how to master emotional intelligence and awareness, in order to develop resilience.

Training & Education

I completed my doctoral training at the University of Ottawa, and my residency at the Calgary Clinical Psychology Residency Program at Alberta Health Services. My post-doctoral fellowship at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary involved collaboratively working to improve equity in cancer care, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. I have published research and presented work in both academic and non-academic settings.

I have trained and worked in Canada’s leading cancer centres and mental health care hospitals and clinics, including the Juravinski Cancer Centre; the Tom Baker Cancer Centre; and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. I have additionally trained in tertiary care clinics for diabetes, epilepsy, and rehabilitation services, outpatient mental health hospital clinics, and community outpatient mental health services.

A large portion of my training and work has been in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, where I was able to better understand the profound impact of trauma on our emotional and interpersonal health. I believe we can all benefit from better support in navigating the waves of emotional experiences & interpersonal hurts and conflict. I draw on my experience supporting people impacted by trauma to inform management of daily stresses and processes of developing and establishing resilience.
